Azuri Real Estate (ARE), the master developer of The Pearl and Gewan Islands, has been honored with four international environment and sustainability awards by The Green Apple Organization. These awards recognize ARE's notable achievements in pollution control, energy efficiency, water management, and carbon reduction, which are vital to promoting environmental improvement and sustainable development.
The awards were presented to Eng. Abdullah Al-Sulaiti, ARE Executive Director of Public Services, in Miami, Florida, USA. This recognition underscores ARE's commitment to its Environment and Sustainability Strategy 2026, highlighting its leadership and innovation in sustainable business practices at Pearl Island.
ARE was selected from 200 nominations, including major regional and international companies, marking it as the first real estate company in the Middle East to receive these prestigious awards. Its inclusion in the World Green Book is a testament to its ongoing commitment to Qatar National Vision 2030.
Award Highlights:
1. **Gold in Pollution Control**: ARE's successful initiatives include waste recycling, plastic reduction, e-waste, and battery management, and the Seabin project, which has significantly reduced marine pollution. Their strategy has resulted in substantial environmental benefits, including the filtration of billions of liters of seawater and significant waste reduction.
2. **Silver in Energy Efficiency**: ARE has implemented a solar-powered intelligent LED lighting system on beaches with 80% recycled materials. This initiative and the conversion to Smart LED technology in communal areas have significantly reduced energy consumption.
3. **Bronze in Water Management**: ARE's water management efforts have saved millions of gallons of freshwater through technology and sustainable practices, including using treated sewage effluent for landscape irrigation and introducing water-efficient features.
4. **Bronze in Carbon Reduction**: Pearl Island hosts the world's largest District Cooling plant, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. ARE has also launched eco-friendly transportation options, including a hybrid limousine service and an electric water taxi, further cutting carbon emissions.
